Bardon Twin #2

After experiencing issues building their own home, Scott and Kristy didn’t want to make the same mistakes again. They had purchased a steep sloping site, where they planned to build two five-bedroom homes as an investment for their family, and we managed the entire process for them.

Conventional wisdom would build the same house side-by-side, but this approach would have resulted in poor lighting and ventilation, as the homes would have shaded each another. Instead, we recommended designing the residences individually to ensure they do not block the aspect of one another. We also introduced light wells and voids that fill the homes with abundant natural light and create a sense of spaciousness.

Though each home has its own individual floorplan, they each have five bedrooms, rumpus room, kitchen with butler’s pantry and pool. The homes required three levels to accommodate all of these inclusions, so we proposed a split-level design to improve the flow between spaces and minimise the number of stairs in each home. The split-level design also sits the homes within the surrounding canopy of trees (rather than looking over the top of them).

Finally, we developed individual interior schemes that respond to the light quality of each residence. To see its twin click here.
